The Seiko 5 Sports SSK017 brings a newly developed GMT movement to the established heritage of the Seiko 5 Sports collection. Developed from the widely loved SKX model, this design combines a recognizable sports-watch character with the practical ability to read two time zones. Its vivid yellow dial, stainless-steel construction, rotating two-color bezel, and luminous hands and indexes create a confident, highly legible appearance for everyday wear.
Design & Styling
The watch presents a substantial yet balanced silhouette, measuring approximately 46 mm in height, 42.5 mm in width, and 13.6 mm in depth. Its silver-tone stainless-steel case and bracelet provide a durable, coordinated foundation, while the yellow dial adds a strong note of color and individuality. The metallic color tone produced through a vapor-deposition process catches and reflects light differently as the viewing angle changes, giving the watch a varied appearance on the wrist.
A two-color rotating bezel supports the GMT display and makes it possible to identify day and night at a glance. The bezel is finished with glossy Hardlex glass, complementing the watch’s sporty, functional presentation.
GMT Function & Display
At the heart of the SSK017 is Seiko’s mechanical caliber 4R34, newly developed with a GMT function. The conventional hour hand and dedicated 24-hour hand, also known as the GMT hand, indicate different times, allowing the wearer to display two time zones with a time difference. Alongside the central three-hand display, the dial includes a date calendar for additional everyday practicality.
Lumibrite is applied to the hands and indexes to support visibility in darker conditions. The watch also features a see-through back, offering a view of the movement, while the screw back contributes to the case’s secure construction.
Automatic Movement & Wearing Details
The SSK017 uses an automatic mechanical movement with a manual-winding function. When fully wound, its operating time is approximately 41 hours. The stated accuracy is +45 seconds to -35 seconds per day. A stainless-steel bracelet in silver supports the 161-gram watch and is secured with a double-lock clasp. It is suitable for an approximate wrist circumference from 14 cm to 21 cm.
Water resistance is rated at 10 ATM. The combination of a rotating bezel, GMT hand, date calendar, luminous elements, and secure clasp gives the watch a practical sports-watch specification while maintaining the distinctive styling of the Seiko 5 Sports line.
